Autism and Learning Disabilities Awareness
The Health and Care Act 2022 introduced a requirement that all registered health and social care providers are required to provide training for their staff in learning disabilities and autism, including how to interact appropriately with autistic people and people who have a learning disability.
This course allows learners to develop and deepen their knowledge on learning disabilities and autism, this includes understanding the barriers people face in a health and social care setting. By the end of this course, learners will understand the importance and requirements of accommodating the needs of individuals with learning disabilities and autism. This will make their experience in various settings more positive and supportive.

This course consists of the following modules:
- Living with Autism
- Living with a Learning Disability
- Working with People with Autism
- Supporting a Person with a Learning Disability
- Communication with Someone with Autism
- Communication with Someone with a Learning Disability
- Risk, Legislation and Safeguarding
On completion of this course learners will be able to:
- Understand what autism and learning disabilities are and how they affect people
- Recognise the difficulties people with autism and/or learning disabilities might face in a healthcare environment
- Acknowledge and accommodate people’s individual needs
- Understand how to effectively communicate with people who may struggle to express themselves or understand
This course meets the learning outcomes of tier 1 of the Core Capabilities Framework for Supporting Autistic People and the Core Capabilities Framework for Supporting People with a Learning Disability
