Infection Prevention and Control – Level 1 – Non-Clinical
Infection prevention and control is a major priority for the health sector and included as part of the Core Skills Training Framework (CSTF). This course has been developed for all staff working in the health sector, to ensure that all staff share the same understanding and good practice in this area.
This course is aimed at all healthcare professionals as part of statutory training requirements.
This course is made up of the following modules:
- The Importance of Safe Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Practice
- Understanding the Chain of Infection
- Essential Practices for Infection Prevention
- Establishing a Safe and Healthy Environment
Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- Describe and explain the consequences of healthcare-associated infections (HCAI) and how they spread.
- Describe the impact healthcare-associated infections have on patients and your duty of care to patients.
- Explain how good IPC practice can help prevent the spread of infection.
- Describe the actions that can minimise risks to health and safety and contribute to positive and safe practice.
This course meets the learning outcomes for Infection Prevention and Control – Level 1 (Subject 6) of the Core Skills Training Framework and standard 15 of the Care Certificate Standard.
Subject 6: Infection Prevention Control, Level 1
The learner will:
- know how individuals can contribute to infection prevention and control
- have knowledge of and demonstrate the standard infection prevention and control precautions relevant to their role which may include:
- Hand Hygiene
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Management of Blood and Body Fluid Spillage
- Management of Occupational Exposure (including sharps)
- Management of the Environment
- Management of Care Equipment.
- recognise and act when their personal fitness to work may pose a risk of infection to others.
