This course is aimed at all healthcare professionals and staff that have no prior knowledge of type 1 diabetes.

This course is made up of the following modules:

  • Overview of diabetes in children and young people
  • Insulin therapies
  • Monitoring diabetes
  • Diet and exercise
  • Diabetes emergencies and complications
  • Service and staff responsibilities

By the end of the course, learners will be able to explain:

  • The prevalence of type 1 and type 2 diabetes in children and young people with diabetes
  • The diagnosis of type 1 and 2 diabetes
  • How to use insulin safely
  • Monitoring and assessment of blood glucose control
  • The role of diet in the management of type 1 diabetes
  • A review of carbohydrate counting and how this relates to the correct dose of insulin
