This course will provide you with an introductory framework on how to treat and manage a child or young person with type 1 diabetes.
This course is aimed at all healthcare professionals and staff that have no prior knowledge of type 1 diabetes.
This course is made up of the following modules:
- Overview of diabetes in children and young people
- Insulin therapies
- Monitoring diabetes
- Diet and exercise
- Diabetes emergencies and complications
- Service and staff responsibilities
By the end of the course, learners will be able to explain:
- The prevalence of type 1 and type 2 diabetes in children and young people with diabetes
- The diagnosis of type 1 and 2 diabetes
- How to use insulin safely
- Monitoring and assessment of blood glucose control
- The role of diet in the management of type 1 diabetes
- A review of carbohydrate counting and how this relates to the correct dose of insulin
