Immunisation and Vaccination
Learn about the practical and legal implications of immunisations and vaccinations, as well as best practice information. This course looks at vaccination courses, their aims and components. It reviews vaccine-preventable diseases, the different types of vaccine used, the key elements of vaccine trials, surveillance and monitoring, the UK vaccination schedule and legal issues associated with vaccination. It also addresses best practice in relation to storing, handling, administration and documentation of vaccines, and how best to advise service users.
This course is intended as a refresher course and is suitable for any healthcare professional that will be administering seasonal vaccinations in the 2023/24 season.
In compliance with the National Minimum Standards and Core Curriculum for Immunisation Training, you should have already completed foundation training in immunisation/vaccination.
The updated refresher course is exclusively available from Skills for Health, and was developed in association with leading eLearning provider, Charles Bloe Training Ltd.
This course has been updated to include COVID-19 vaccine-related information from the Green Book.
All healthcare staff involved in delivering or advising on immunisations and vaccinations, as an update of prior knowledge.
This course is made up of the following modules:
- Module 1: Current issues in Immunisation and Vaccination
- Module 2: Keeping Up to Date – Vaccines and Policies
- Module 3: Immunisation Schedule
- Module 4: Administering the Vaccine
- Module 5: Review of Current Practice – Anaphylaxis and Basic Life Support
Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- Relate accountability and responsibility to legal, professional and ethical aspects of vaccine administration in your area of practice
- Identify key legislation regarding the supply, storage and administration of vaccines.
- Recall your responsibilities in order to undertake practice as a prescriber or via Patient Group Directions
- Locate up to date information regarding local and national vaccination schedule(s)
- Describe the steps required, pre, during and post vaccine administration
